Request for your short story

I’ve had this idea in my head for a while and I want to try it out:

1 picture + 4 lines from a song = a collection of short stories.

The picture and the lyrics form the inspiration for your and my short story of max. 2,000 words. After you’ve written your version, I collect all the stories and I publish them on my blog. Then, when we like them enough and we’ve done some editing for each other, we offer the compilation to one of our Indie publishers or self-pub them. I had in mind 10 to 12 short stories but, of course, there is no limit.

Sounds like fun?

I really like the quality of many of my friends’ stuff and I simply love your imagination, so I can’t wait to see what you would come up with. I really believe this cooperation could be both fun and successful. Any money we’d make, could go to a charity of our choice??

Deadline: 30 June 2012. Please send your story to: hannahwar@hotmail.com or drop me a line in the comment section below.

So… here’s your picture. It’s by the artist Gregory Crewdson.

And here are the lyrics:

No matter who you are

No matter where you go in your life

At some point you’re gonna need somebody

To stand by you.

(Stand by me, version Roger Ridley)

Oh Haynnay, I’m in the middle of so much and I’ve had a great idea for this :-(
    When’s the deadline?

    • Hannah Warren says:

30 June, but flexible, Raggs. You’re one I’d really like in so for you I’d bend all the rules. :-)

  2. I will give it a go, I think, some time next week. I’ve committed to NanoWrimobootcamp for June, so this might get the juices flowing for that. Not very relevant, but my first thought on seeing the image was, well, the guy – looks as if he is peeing in the road. I know, I know, some situation is ongoing and that is totally offbase.

  3. Jean says:

Brilliant idea :) I hope I can come up with something, Hannah!

    • Hannah Warren says:

Oh Jeena, that would make me really happy. You know I love your writing and you’re excellent at short stories!

  4. Kristen Stone says:

Ummm! Very interesting. I’ll have a think about this and see if I can come up with anything. No promises. But I’ll have a think.

  5. I think I have a wonderful idea for this but time will tell. Not sure I’d be much use at editing the works of others but seems an interesting premise.

    • hannah says:

Jeffrey, the editing is just an idea and perhaps not at all necessary. Thank you for your interest. Lovely!

  6. Jillian says:

What an emotive picture. I can hear the little bells ringing already. I’m game.

  7. Kat Ward says:

Although I’m mainly a long-winded biographical writer, I have been known to spout fiction now and then. I find the picture and lyrics very thought provoking. I may just do this as it will be a break from a difficult part of the bio right now. 2,000 words is almost nothing to me though; I did say I am long-winded. I’ll do my best, Hannah.

Now, let’s look. I know I’m not very creative at the moment myself but that doesn’t mean I’ve let the short-story compilation idea slip from my mind. These people have shown an interest in it: Jeena Papaadi, Kat Ward, Jillian Brookes-Ward, Jeffrey Hollar, Kristen Stone (maybe), Phil van Wulven, Reggie Jables Jones (maybe), Theo Knell (maybe), Lilian Kendrick, Helen Ducal, Jessica Wagner (maybe), Sheila Mary Taylor (maybe), Babs Morton, Anthony Saunders (maybe) and Loretta Proctor.

We will get there one day!!

  10. Count me in, honey. This may well get my creative juices flowing again. Great idea! xo

  11. I’ll definitely give it a go – sounds good.
